Description
ABOUT COVALEN
Covalen is a family-owned manufacturer’s representative serving the water and wastewater industry across five states. From our Indianapolis headquarters, we sell and service pumps, controls, and treatment systems for municipal, commercial, industrial, and new development applications.
While we're large enough to support municipalities and major infrastructure projects, we're still small enough that relationships, trust, and teamwork matter every day.
JOB SUMMARY
Covalen is entering a period of growth and expects to hire at least six employees across sales, service, and accounting over the next six months. We're looking for an experienced recruiter who enjoys building recruiting processes, partnering directly with leaders, and helping a small business attract great people.
The recruiter will work closely with hiring managers to shape each search, source and screen candidates, manage interviews, and help close offers. You'll work directly with company leadership and hiring managers who are committed to timely feedback and active participation in the hiring process.
The position is fully remote. Indianapolis-area candidates are preferred so occasional in-person meetings are easy, but that is not required.
It is expected to run for an initial six month period, with the potential to continue part-time if it's a good fit on both sides.
This opportunity is well suited for a recruiter who enjoys part-time consulting work, has experience supporting growing small businesses, or is looking for a flexible engagement alongside other clients or responsibilities.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You'll help us successfully fill our planned hiring needs while creating a recruiting process that can support future growth. Success in this role includes:
- Building qualified candidate pipelines for service, sales, and accounting positions.
- Consistently presenting strong candidates who are both capable and a good fit for the Covalen team.
- Keeping searches moving through clear communication and timely coordination with hiring managers and candidates.
- Helping establish practical recruiting tools and processes that make future hiring more effective.
- Delivering a candidate experience that reflects Covalen's values and professionalism.
Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with hiring managers to define what the job really needs, who would do well in it, and what the pay should look like.
- Source candidates through LinkedIn, job boards, industry associations, and direct outreach.
- Screen candidates, gauge their experience and technical background, and narrow the field to the strongest fits.
- Set up interviews, gather feedback, keep candidates in the loop, and help hiring managers make decisions.
- Show up clearly and consistently to candidates, from job posts to outreach.
- Keep hiring managers updated with clear, timely communication.
- Handle offer conversations, work through details, and stay connected with candidates through their start date.
- You'll have significant influence over how recruiting is done at Covalen—from sourcing strategy and employer branding to interview process improvements and ATS recommendations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3–5 years of full-cycle recruiting experience, in-house or agency (mid-level).
- Demonstrated experience hiring skilled trades/service technicians, outside sales, or accounting/finance roles.
- Strong sourcing skills on LinkedIn Recruiter and major job boards; comfortable with cold outreach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to represent Covalen credibly to candidates.
- Able to manage multiple searches at once and keep candidate pipelines organized with minimal day-to-day oversight.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Based in the Indianapolis area, or willing to travel to Indianapolis for occasional meetings.
- Prior recruiting experience in water/wastewater, industrial equipment, manufacturer’s reps, HVAC/mechanical contracting, or other skilled-trades-heavy industries.
- Familiarity with the Indianapolis labor market and Midwest field-service talent pools.
- Experience selecting or administering an ATS.
- Prior part-time, fractional, or contract recruiting experience with small businesses (under 100 employees).
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Part-time W-2 employee.
- Flexible 20-hour schedule with considerable autonomy over when work is performed.
- We believe this workload fits comfortably within a 20-hour-per-week schedule.
- Fully remote — open to candidates anywhere in the U.S., with a preference for the Indianapolis area so you can occasionally meet with us in person.
SALARY
- Pay range: $25–$28/hour depending on experience and skills for this non-exempt position.
- Initial engagement of six months, with potential of an ongoing part-time role if it’s a fit on both sides.
- Covalen will provide a laptop, cell phone, and standard remote-work tools.
