Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a consultant in our rapidly growing Edinburgh and Glasgow offices – whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model.
At AECOM, we’re at the forefront of innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients. These include local government, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, contractors, charities and water companies. In this role, you will be working day to day on exciting and ambitious projects, developing skills and supporting more junior team members.
All members of the team take an active role in client contact and commercial aspects of our projects. Health, safety and environmental considerations underpin everything that we do.
We have an impressive portfolio of projects including several urban river restoration projects and a wide range of flooding and drainage assessments and design. We have delivered challenging urban river restoration schemes, working collaboratively with local authorities and the SEPA Water Environment Fund team and other technical specialists. A selection of our recent and current projects includes:
- Levern Water Restoration project design and construction, East Renfrewshire Council and SEPA WEF. Salmon return to Barrhead's Levern Water after 170 years - East Renfrewshire Council
- Tollcross Burn De-culverting project, Glasgow City Council and SEPA WEF. Hidden Burn Brought Back to the Surface at Sandyhills Park - Glasgow City Council
- Dighty Water Restoration project concept design (ongoing) - Dundee City Council and SEPA WEF.
- Glasgow Lost Rivers project concept design (ongoing) - Glasgow City Council and SEPA WEF.
- Bathgate Water Restoration project design (ongoing) – West Lothian Council and SEPA WEF.
- Alyth NFM Study - Perth and Kinross Council.
- Westquarter NFM Study and leaky barrier design, Falkirk Council.
We are seeking to recruit a water consultant to assist with a range of projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to further your career by gaining valuable work experience within a specialist surface water environment team in an established consultancy. Your work will cover a broad range of hydrological and hydro-morphological activities, collaborating with clients and our multidisciplinary teams.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Support river restoration design.
- Support the team in developing technical approaches to strategies and design works
- Support the team in clearly communicating with key clients both internally and externally.
- Geomorphological studies, including supporting channel enhancement/ restoration projects, Natural Flood Management (NFM) studies and Fluvial Audits.

The team have a collaborative approach to working both within our team and more broadly developing our relationships with the Energy, Environmental and Transportation sectors. We are a dynamic team looking to grow and support the Water teams in Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as across the UK.
